## What is CPI?
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is a measure of the average change over time in the prices paid by urban consumers for a market basket of consumer goods and services. Indexes are available for the U.S. and various geographic areas. Average price data for select utility, automotive fuel, and food items are also available.

- $CPI_t$ = consumer price index in current period
- $C_t$ = cost of market basket in current period
- $C_0$ = cost of market basket in base period

Interpretation:
The consistent rise in the CPI indicates that the cost of living, as measured by this basket of goods and services, has been increasing. The acceleration of the index in recent years suggests that inflationary pressures may have been stronger recently, potentially due to various economic factors such as supply chain disruptions, fiscal policies, and changes in demand patterns.
Understanding this trend is crucial for investors, policymakers, and consumers, as it affects purchasing power, monetary policy decisions, and investment strategies.
