# How to Write An Essay in 2023 January 2023 As I was chatting with my sister Nancy about [[ChatGPT]], I realized that this technology is similar to the impromptu street art performances one can see in New York City (See [here](https://www.youtube.com/embed/-qd1IjU11EU) for example). I shared this insight with her during our conversation ![[how-to-write-essay-1.png]] As I considered the similarities between ChatGPT and the impromptu street art performances in New York City, an idea occurred to me: perhaps I could write an essay on this very topic using ChatGPT on the spot. It's like a performance within a performance - the technology allowing me to spontaneously craft a written piece just as the street artist creates a painting in the moment." I visited https://chat.openai.com/chat and used ChatGPT to transform the contents of our chat into a coherent essay, adding a bit of context to provide some additional clarity. ![[how-to-write-essay-3.png]] After using ChatGPT to refine and clarify my ideas, I used the following prompt to transform them into a well-written and structured essay, similar to a blog post. ![[how-to-write-essay-4.png]] Upon reviewing the essay, I came to appreciate the true value proposition of ChatGPT: its ability to facilitate rapid ideation. This feature allows for unprecedented speed in the creation of new ideas and concepts, and I wanted to highlight this in the essay. So.. I told ChatGPT just that. ![[how-to-write-essay-5.png]] It's crazy that we could do this! However, upon reviewing the new version proposed by ChatGPT, I realized that the tool had inadvertently left out the very example that had inspired the essay in the first place. So, I asked ChatGPT to add it back in, further enhancing the piece. ![[how-to-write-essay-6.png]] Here is the final version of the essay: > In the bustling streets of New York City, one can often find talented artists creating impromptu paintings, their brushes deftly dancing across the canvas as they bring their visions to life before our very eyes. In much the same way, the advent of ChatGPT and AI technologies has transformed the process of writing an essay into a kind of performance art. With their assistance, we are able to spontaneously craft a well-written and insightful piece, much like the painter who creates a beautiful work of art on the spot. > > These technologies allow us to tap into our own creativity and ideas, giving us the freedom to explore and express ourselves in new and exciting ways. They also provide a level of support and guidance that helps us to organize and articulate our thoughts, ensuring that our essays are clear, concise, and effective. > > In the fast-paced world we live in, speed is often the determining factor in success. These technologies enable us to iterate and innovate at a rapid pace, constantly refining and improving our work as we go. So next time you sit down to write an essay, think of yourself as an artist, creating a masterpiece on the canvas of the page. With the help of ChatGPT and AI, the possibilities are endless and the only limiting factor is your own imagination and willingness to take advantage of these powerful tools. It only took me about 8 minutes to write this entire essay with the help of ChatGPT. You can imagine my sister's shock when I showed her the final product - an essay written on the spot with the help of ChatGPT, complete with the very example that had inspired it all. ![[how-to-write-essay-7.png]] In conclusion, ChatGPT has proven to be a revolutionary tool with the potential to transform the way we approach writing, coding, and even our general use of the internet. As demonstrated by my own experience, this tool's ability to facilitate rapid ideation and spontaneously generate high-quality content is truly impressive. I have no doubt that ChatGPT will continue to have a significant impact on many aspects of our lives, revolutionizing the way we communicate, create, and innovate. P.S. Plot twist: in case you were wondering, this entire essay was also written with the help of ChatGPT. Talk about meta! ![[how-to-write-essay-8.jpeg]] P.P.S. Just to drive the point home, even this postscript was written using ChatGPT - it's like the turtles all the way down, but with the power of ChatGPT at every level. This tool truly has the ability to facilitate and enhance every aspect of our work and communication. ![[how-to-write-essay-9.png]]
